Esquire magazine has crowned a student from Liverpool as their UK ‘Best Dressed’ Male.
Dan Wood, 22, won the title back in September but has had a whirlwind couple of months following the prestigious award. The Liverpool University student said: “It’s still hard to comprehend; there are so many well dressed people around in Liverpool alone. When they announced the result on the night it was a bit of a blur, probably not helped by the ocean of cocktails at the party!”
Dan won the title out of thousands of stylish hopefuls following casting auditions nationwide, including one at the Hard Day’s Night Hotel. He said: “Some friends and I heard that Esquire were hosting their Liverpool search in the Hard Day’s Night so, after some gentle persuasion, I went straight from work and we had a few free Peronis and a good chat with the Esquire team, so I’m glad I did!”
As the winner Dan has been given a prize wardrobe worth £20,000 from designer site my-wardrobe.com. The enviable prize means a lot to stylish Dan, who said: “I’ve concentrated on the more casual side with the prize from my-wardrobe, so it means I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of everything. It’s nice to be able to put something special on a daily basis!”
Dan describes his look as ‘timeless and sartorially led’ which is what impressed the Esquire judging panel to crown him as the winner among the twelve other finalists.
Despite winning, Dan still chooses to hunt for a fashion bargain, saying: “I’d love to be able to shop regularly in Weaver’s Door in Cavern Walks, Gieves and Hawkes in the Metquarter, Flannels and Zegna in Liverpool One, but usually it’s a case of trawling the charity shops! Pop Boutique has the occasional gem and Oxfam Bold Street has been great for ties.”
However, despite his new title and access to a designer wardrobe, Dan insists that his style still remains the same: “I’ve never dressed too over the top, perhaps some of my individual pieces are just a bit more striking now!”
