Liverpool musicians The Loose Moose String Band are set to take their early bluegrass and old time country sound to the Glastonbury stage next summer.
The band, who have been playing together for around six years, consists of six members playing a wide range of instruments from guitar to fiddle, mandolin to banjo and everything in between.
They have played in numerous venues across the city and can be seen every second Sunday in The Caledonia pub on Catherine Street.
Last year the group played at the Kendal Calling music festival and banjo and fiddle player Barry Southern told JMU Journalism how much the band enjoys the festival atmosphere.
“Kendal Calling was a great gig. I enjoyed it a lot. It’s always a privilege to be asked to play festivals as someone trusts you to entertain a larger crowd.
“We’ve played a few festivals over the last few years like The Big Chill, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Standon Calling and we’ll be playing at Glastonbury Festoval this year, which we’re obviously really looking forward to.”
Although the band are beginning to attract the attention of music enthusiasts and promoters up and down the country, Barry told JMU Journalism that it is their love for music and performing live that will ensure they are entertaining crowds for years to come.
“The thing I’ve always liked about our band is that we aren’t trying to make it big or crack into the mainstream. We aren’t trying to be ‘cool’, whatever that is, and I think that attitude lends us longevity.
“We’ve always been good friends and enjoyed playing together and so I can only hope that we can keep playing for years to come and keep having a laugh with it.
“If our gigs were all in completely empty pubs we’d still play and have a great time. That’s what it’s all about anyway, right?”
