Liverpool group Atomic Kitten are set to reunite for a tour and to star in their own reality TV show next year.
They are among several ’90s pop acts that will reform for an ITV2 documentary series and the girl group will join forces along with 5ive, Liberty X and 911 for ‘The Big Reunion’, which is set to be broadcast in 2013.
Eight hour-long episodes will focus on the bands as they reform for two weeks of intense rehearsals, prior to hitting the stage to perform as a group for the first time since they split in 2004.
Liz McClarnon has already started filming her own scenes in Liverpool. The Scouse singer will join bandmate Natasha Hamilton and original member Kerry Katona for intensive rehearsals. But Jenny Frost, who is pregnant with twins, will not be involved.
Sources said bringing Kerry back was a “great twist” and will ensure the band get plenty of tabloid attention.
Executive producer of The Big Reunion, Michael Kelpie, said: “To reunite these bands, tell the stories of what has happened to them since their heydays and follow them as they prepare to step back on the stage for the first time in a decade is a dream come true.”
The group is famous for hits including Whole Again and Tide Is High and Liz, 31, said: “We’ve got two weeks to rehearse before we go back on stage together for the first time and perform for thousands of people. It’s me, Tash and Kerry – no Jenny. We met up with Kerry last Christmas but before that we hadn’t seen each other for 10 years. It will be very interesting.”
Director of digital channels, Angela Jain, added: “A lot has happened in the time these bands have been apart; marriages, divorces and changes in career. And who knows quite what will happen when they reunite?”
Following in the footsteps of comeback bands such as Steps and the successful Take That reunion, the Atomic Kitten girls are also considering a tour.
