Liverpool’s largest restaurant is on the way as a new 22,000 square-foot Chinese restaurant will open on Hanover Street next summer.
Tai Wu will open on the site of Liverpool’s first Chinese restaurant which was opened in the late 1960s, but subsequently demolished in 2009 by Liverpool One developer Grosvenor to make way for this huge development.
The restaurant is part of a 34,000sq ft leisure development called The Beat, which will also include a 198-bed Premier Inn hotel, and has been built on the old site of the Golden Phoenix.
The Beat is one of the last plots of Liverpool One to be completed, and there is still space for a café and a shop, plus another three restaurants.
Guy Butler, projects director at Grosvenor Developments, said: “Following on from the recent news of the student accommodation scheme being developed by Portside House, this is great news for Hanover Street and the Beat.
“The site was home to the first Chinese restaurant in Liverpool and now it will be home to the largest.
“We are thrilled with this letting, which secures two-thirds of the space in the Beat, and sets the tone for the remaining space.”
The first Tai Wu was opened in Manchester and is part of oriental restaurant chain, Tai Pan. The £12m Premier Inn hotel will create 50 jobs and will sit above the retail and leisure units which are all on the ground floor.
