Liverpool’s only dry bar The Brink hosted the first Merseyside Recovery Awards to raise money for those suffering with alcoholism.
The awards were organised by charity Action on Addiction who chose the non-alcoholic establishment on Parr Street as the venue due to the work the bar has done for alcohol addiction across Merseyside.
The winners of the nine awards, which included The Sue Mercer lifetime achievement award, were chosen by a set of five judges, who all have experience in the recovery field.
The event was attended by members of the recovery community accompanied by family and friends. Community Engagement Worker Damien Kelly told JMU Journalism: “It was a great night, around 100 people came and a three-course meal was put on for them. A lot of great work has been happening. Liverpool has a huge recovery community”.
Spread the Jam, regular performers at The Brink, a 10 piece pop-funk band played at the event.
It is hoped that next year a larger venue will be required due to the success of the award ceremony.
