Journalism and International Journalism students were in attendance to mark the completion of their BA degree at the annual event in the city centre.

In front of a packed audience of parents, family, lecturers and well-wishers, the students appeared on stage to be received by university ambassadors – including Vice-Chancellor Nigel Weatherill – and enjoy applause from the watching crowd.

With traditional graduation caps and gowns in place, the ceremony was the culmination of three years’ worth of hard work and the pinnacle of a day which will never be forgotten.

During the afternoon ceremony, which featured Liverpool Screen School and School of Humanities and Social Science students, an Honorary Fellowship was also awarded to the Rt Hon Lord Justice Leveson.

Lord Leveson, who is currently leading a public inquiry into press practices following the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, paid particular attention to journalism students during an interesting speech.

After posing for photographs with family and fellow students in and around the cathedral, the graduates moved to the nearby Dean Walters building, a former home of the LJMU Journalism and International Journalism courses, for drinks and the opportunity for parents to meet tutors.

Several special awards were given to high-achieving students before the group dispersed into Liverpool to enjoy meals and drinks one last time ahead of making the transition into the world of work.
