Talented Widnes dance troop Funky Feet are pursuing their dreams to perform at the world renowned destination, Disneyland Paris.
To be in with a chance, the group of gifted youngsters entered a talent competition, in which hundreds of dance schools sent in DVDs showcasing their moves. Funky Feet were one of the chosen few who qualified for live auditions at the holiday resort.
With the performance date set for August 21st, the team must now raise funds to allow all 59 dancers to go on the two-night trip. Already well on their way, the group has managed to raise £2,000 through dance shows across Merseyside and they have also been backed by the Widnes Council, which has issued them with a £1,000 youth project bursary.
Instructor Helen Norton told JMU Journalism: “We are trying to raise as much money as we can, we have 59 children going to perform then mums and families want to come too. Our shows at Christmas raised £2,000 so we are hoping to have the same success with our upcoming events.”
This Friday, the dancers are holding a live entertainment race-night at Birchfield Sports and Leisure Club hoping to add to their savings, as well as bag-packing at local supermarkets on Saturday.
With rehearsals for their big performance starting this month, Helen said the girls are starting to get really excited: “When we found out we got through we couldn’t let go, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“I’m hoping this weekend will be a big help, then we will get costumes and things too. We’re also looking for a sponsor whose logo can be included on the outfits for the performance.”
